FAQ
Answers to the questions we’re most frequently asked about Did You Pay?.
1. How does Did You Pay? work?
Choose the parking and road charge locations you want Did You Pay? to monitor.
Once you’ve chosen a location, it’s ready whenever you visit—whether that’s tomorrow, next week or next month.
When you visit one of your chosen locations, Did You Pay? asks if you’d like a payment reminder. If you do, the app creates a reminder and continues to remind you until you tell it you’ve paid.
Unlike a standard reminders app, you don’t need to create multiple reminders yourself. Did You Pay? automatically schedules follow-up reminders throughout the payment period, making it much less likely that you’ll forget before the payment deadline.
2. Which locations are supported?
Did You Pay? supports a growing range of UK locations where payment is made after you leave.
These include selected airports, barrier-free car parks, toll roads, bridges and tunnels.
A full list is available on the Supported Locations page and new locations are added over time.
If you can’t find a location, email locations@didyoupay.co.uk and we’ll look into whether we can add it.
3. Do I need to set a reminder every time I travel?
No.
Once you’ve chosen a location, it’s ready whenever you visit—whether that’s tomorrow, next week or next month.
There’s no need to remember to create a reminder before each journey.
4. Does Did You Pay? know when I’ve paid?
No.
Did You Pay? doesn’t know whether you’ve made a payment.
It’s designed to remind you—not to monitor your payments.
You decide when a reminder is no longer needed.
5. Is my location shared?
No.
Each installation of Did You Pay? works independently on the device it’s installed on.
The app doesn’t build a history of where you’ve been or keep a record of every reminder that’s been triggered.
Apart from information needed to manage your current reminder, your journeys aren’t tracked or shared.
Did You Pay? is designed to remind you when you need it—not to monitor where you’ve been.
6. What if I can’t find a location?
We’re always looking to expand the locations supported by Did You Pay?.
If you can’t find the location you’re looking for, email locations@didyoupay.co.uk.
We’ll look into whether we can add it to a future update.
7. Is there a free version of Did You Pay?
Yes.
The free version of Did You Pay? is fully functional and allows you to select one location to receive reminders for.
You can change your selected location whenever you like, and the free version will continue to receive all future app updates.
Upgrading to the paid version unlocks the ability to select multiple or all available locations, making Did You Pay? a true set and forget experience.
Did You Pay? will never require a subscription.
Did You Pay? will never be supported by advertising.
8. Why was Did You Pay? created?
Did You Pay? was inspired by two real experiences within our family.
On both occasions, the intention to pay was there. The payment wasn’t forgotten because anyone was careless—it was forgotten because life simply moved on.
That’s when we realised something.
The challenge isn’t remembering. It’s remembering before the payment deadline.
The easier it is to leave, the easier it is to forget to pay later.
That’s why we created Did You Pay?—to help people avoid unnecessary penalty charges caused by forgotten payments.
9. Does Did You Pay? work in the background?
Yes.
Did You Pay? is designed to work quietly in the background so it can recognise when you visit one of your chosen locations.
There’s no need to open the app before every journey.
For the best experience, you’ll need to allow the permissions requested during setup.
10. Why does Did You Pay? need location access?
Did You Pay? uses location access only to recognise when you visit one of your chosen locations and to offer you a reminder.
The app isn’t interested in tracking where you’ve been.
Every installation works independently on your device, and apart from information needed to manage your current reminder, your journeys aren’t tracked or shared.
11. Can I use Siri with Did You Pay?
Yes. Did You Pay supports Siri, allowing you to create a payment reminder without opening the app.
Simply say:
“Siri, use Did You Pay.”
Siri will immediately create a reminder called “Created with Siri” using the app’s normal reminder schedule.
The next time you open the app, you can rename the reminder to anything you like, for example:
- Manchester Airport
- Merseyflow
- Tesco
- Dart Charge
- Royal Preston Hospital
The reminder will then appear throughout the app using the new name.
Siri-created reminders:
- Use the same reminder schedule as reminders created in the app.
- Count towards the maximum of three active reminders.
- Can be renamed at any time.
- Can be marked as paid or postponed just like any other reminder.
- Can use any reminder name you choose. It doesn’t need to match a location already included in Did You Pay.
